You might have been in a situation where DISM failed in windows 10; this could be stressful for a user who is experiencing this error for the first time. DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management) is a powerful built-in tool in Windows 10/11 that helps users maintain and repair the OS.

It is a critical tool for fixing various PC issues, such as corruption, system image problems, and even security updates.

However, sometimes DISM may fail to work, which can be frustrating and time-consuming for users. When this happens, it’s essential to know what other methods you can use to fix your Windows system.

This article will explore 9 methods you can use if DISM failed in windows 10. By following these methods, you can effectively troubleshoot your Windows system and fix any issues that may have caused DISM to fail.

What is DISM error?

When DISM fails to work, it can result in a DISM error, which can manifest in different ways depending on the cause of the failure. Some common DISM errors include DISM failed, error 0x800f081f, DISM error 87, DISM error 0x800f0906, DISM error 0x80070002, and more.

It is important to troubleshoot your PC to know the root cause of the problem. Below are some of the common causes of this error.

  • Corrupt system files: If there are any corrupted files on your Windows system, it can cause DISM to fail.
  • Missing updates: If the required update is not installed or is partially installed, it can prevent DISM from running.
  • Outdated drivers: Outdated or incompatible drivers can also cause DISM errors. If the drivers are not updated or incompatible with the Windows version, DISM may fail.
  • Insufficient disk space: If your system doesn’t have enough free disk space, DISM may fail to run.
  • Issues with Windows Update service: If there are any issues with the Windows Update service, DISM may not work.
  • Permissions issues: DISM requires administrative privileges to run, so if there are permission issues on your system, it may cause DISM to fail.
  • Incompatible or damaged system image: If the system image on your Windows system is damaged or incompatible, DISM may not work.
  • Network connection issues: If there are any network connection issues, DISM may not be able to connect to the Windows Update server to download the required files.
