David Ogbor February 28, 2023

The most common problem users face while using fingerprints is the fingerprint sensor not working in Windows 11. Entering your password every time you want to log in can be frustrating.

Fingerprint sensors have become a popular and convenient way to log in to your computer and authenticate transactions. However, like any technology, fingerprint sensors can experience issues that prevent them from working correctly.

This article will outline four effective fixes to help you get your Windows 11 fingerprint sensor working again.

Why did my fingerprint option disappear Windows?

There could be many causes for this problem, but the primary causes are listed below.

  • System update: Sometimes, system updates can cause the fingerprint option to disappear from the login screen. This happens when the driver for the fingerprint scanner is not compatible with the updated version of Windows.
  • Driver issues: If there is an issue with the driver for the fingerprint scanner, then it can cause the option to disappear.
  • Hardware failure: The option will disappear if the fingerprint scanner has malfunctioned or stopped working. This can happen if there is damage to the scanner
  • Disabled Biometric services: If the Biometric Services are disabled or not started in Windows, the fingerprint option may not be visible.
  • Power settings: If the computer’s power settings are set to low power or power saver mode, the fingerprint scanner may be disabled to save power.
  • Antivirus software: Some antivirus software can cause conflicts with the fingerprint scanner driver, leading to the option disappearing.
  • User account issues: If the user account settings have been changed, the fingerprint option may disappear from the login screen.
  • Corrupted Windows files: In some cases, corrupted Windows files can cause the fingerprint option to disappear.

Is a built-in scanner better than a USB fingerprint scanner?

We recommend a built-in scanner because it is typically more convenient and integrated with the device, making it easier to use and reducing the need for additional hardware. It can also be more secure as it is typically harder to tamper with or bypass a built-in scanner.

On the other hand, a USB fingerprint scanner can be more versatile as it can be used with multiple devices and is usually more portable.

Ultimately, the choice between a built-in scanner and a USB fingerprint scanner will depend on factors such as the level of security required, the specific use case, and personal preference.

By following the steps in this article, you can troubleshoot and resolve issues with your fingerprint sensor on Windows 11, ensuring that you can use this convenient and secure authentication method with ease.

However, if these solutions do not work, it may be necessary to seek further assistance from a technical expert or the device manufacturer.
