Best Solutions to Speed Up Slow Internet on Windows 11

Everyone hates slow internet. When your Windows 11 experience slow internet, you will get frustrated, especially when your activity on the internet is critical to the progress of your activity.

We have provided several solutions that will help you improve the internet speed on your Windows 11 computer.

Why is the Windows 11 download so slow?

There can be different reasons for the slow internet speed you are experiencing o your windows 11 computer. Some of them are:

  • Background apps: Several apps running in the background consume a lot of data, leading to internet speed lag.
  • Weak Signal: A weak internet signal or low bandwidth can result in slow internet.
  • Large files: The internet speed will likely become slow when you download large files. A 3GB file will download much slower than a 400MB file. Size is of the essence.
  • RAM size: Your computer memory greatly contributes to your internet speed. The bigger the memory size, the faster the speed.
  • Windows update: You may have noticed that your internet became slow after a Windows 11 update. This is a likely cause of internet slow speed.
  • DNS server issues: There might be problems with the DNS server, leading to the internet being slow.

Does Windows 11 cause internet problems?

To answer the question, not really! However, there have been a few cases and reports of new OS interrupting the quality of the internet.

Primarily, it has been conceived that, on Windows 11, Wi-Fi connection has proven to be one of the most prevalent issues related to the internet.

Some users have complained of slow Wi-Fi speeds and other errors like Unidentified Network, Limited access, or no internet access popping up as error messages.

How can I speed up my internet in Windows 11?

1. Check router range

  1. If you are using a wireless router, check to ensure that the Wi-Fi is within range of your computer. The closer your PC is to the internet, the faster the speed.
  2. When connected, check to confirm that the signal strength you see is at maximum. It works best that way.
  3. Even more, in addition to the standard 2.4 GHz, there are available dual-band routers that support 5 GHz bandwidth, and it offers a higher Internet speed. If your router is in this category, ensure you connect to the 5GHz network.

2. Update your network drivers

  1. Press the Window + X hotkeys to open a Windows 11 shortcut menu.
  2. Select Device Manager from the Quick Link menu list.

  3. Afterward, locate and double-click Network Adapters on the device list and then right-click on your Internet Network adapters and select Update driver.

  4. Choose Search automatically for drivers and allow the process to complete.
  5. It will automatically install new drivers on your computer if the Windows 11 utility identifies a new driver.

3. Lower bandwidths for downloading updates

  1. Press Windows + I to launch the Settings app.
  2. Select Windows Update on the left sidebar.
  3. Now click on Windows Update on the right pane.

  4. On the opened menu, click on Advanced options to open other vital options.

  5. Afterward, click on Delivery Optimization under Additional options.
  6. Now turn off the toggle for Allow downloads from other PCs.

  7. Next, click on Advanced options.

  8. Then check boxes for bandwidth allocation to download updates in the background and foreground in the Absolute Bandwidth options.

  9. Also, choose the Percentage of measured bandwidth method and set the desired setting using the slider.
  10. Navigate down and check the two boxes under Upload settings.
  11. Use the slider now to set the intended bandwidth for Uploading Updates and Monthly Upload Limit.

4. End processes consuming data

  1. Press the Ctrl + Shift + Esc simultaneously to open the Task Manager.
  2. Scroll and find the Performance tab.
  3. Select the Open Resource Monitor.
  4. Now find the Network tab located in the Resource Monitor window.
  5. Identify programs consuming much data, right-click on the programs, and click End process.

5. Run internet troubleshooter

  1. Press Windows + I to open the Settings app and select Troubleshoot in the System tab.
  2. Afterward, select the Other troubleshooters option.
  3. Next, click on the Run button close to Internet connections to open the troubleshooter.
  4. Select the correct response when prompted to finish the troubleshooting process.
